It was busy but very controlled. The host was definitely on top of what was going on when it came to accommodating guests for seating. Once inside, the wait staff was amazing at making suggestions and explaining the menu. Food came out quick and on point! Everything I ordered was delicious. It was definitely worth the wait to get into the establishment. Highly recommend. Will definitely come again so I can experience everything on the menu.

Modern restaurant, attentive service and rich seafood selection with focus on traditional Mexican cooking. One highlight on the menu is kingfish tacos done Al Pastor style - very inventive and unusual. The menu is fairly large, and the wine list features Mexican organic varietals. Gets super-busy towards the peak hours, so reservations are probably a good thing to have.

Very friendly service and our server spoke good English! Very attentive too. We loved every single dish we ordered. The ingredients are fresh and the seasonings are unique. I highly recommend the grilled whole fish (remember to check with them the weight), soft shell crab, tuna tostada, and the strawberry meringue which is not too sweet and heavenly! Reservation is highly recommended. Definitely not cheap.

Amazing food and experience. We came for lunch, got there right when it opened and sat down super quick. All of the raw fish small plates were delicious and I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Great apple tart as well.

My friend and I had an amazing lunch at Contramar—absolutely worthy of its reputation! Every dish we ordered was memorable in its own way. We started with hot soups, and the mixed seafood soup in particular was creamy, rich, and full of flavor—perfect comfort food for a rainy day. The grilled octopus was tender and perfectly charred, and the grilled pescado a la talla (with red and green sauces) was divine—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Two must ordered dishes!!! For dessert, the fig tart was an absolute standout. The figs were sweet and fresh, and the crust was buttery with just the right crisp. A must-try! The strawberries & whipped cream cake was light and not overly sweet, though the cream could’ve used a bit more seasoning to balance the flavors—it’s generous in portion, so better shared! The dining environment was lovely, laid-back yet elegant, with bright, natural tones and a vibrant atmosphere. The staff were super friendly, and one of our waiters even took some amazing photos and cute selfies with us, which made the whole experience extra fun and memorable.

Upon recommendation of my Airbnb host, we thankfully made it here. Over two weeks traveling through Mexico, this so far hands down is our finest restaurant. Finally a fish restaurant. Finally an upscale trendy enjoyable dining place. Finally a restaurant that make sure diners leave happy and any problems are taken care of to the satisfaction of the diner prior to them leaving. This restaurant is a do not miss restaurant and in my opinion great memorable meals are had here. From the the man out front to the waiters to the bartenders to the manager or owner, everybody was on point, smiling and enjoying their jobs. This is a sign of great leadership and management at this restaurant. We showed up without a reservation and they were so nice to try to get us in quickly. The restaurant closes early at 8:00 p.m. We ended up agreeing to be seated at the bar and for the two of us this was a great solution. The waiters immediately took care of us. We got a great view of the bartenders who work non-stop during the entire service. The dining room was constantly packed but not very loud. It was just a beautiful amazing experience there. Drinks were great. We had cocktails and like everything else they were perfect. We got the octopus appetizer with potatoes and it was heavenly. We finished up sharing the baked fish which came out looking like a Mexican flag. That was also a really great meal with what we were told was Mexican caviar (beans) and corn tortillas. Salsas and condiments were also really great. I got a very fine rose to enjoy the fish with. The dessert a tray was filled with the most sumptuous fawns and brownies and cheesecakes. Looking at it we just wanted them all. We ended up with the chocolate brownie done warm with vanilla ice cream and a coconut flan. Are they take credit cards and American Express. This is an upscale restaurant. It doesn't seem like they it tolerate mediocracy and either their service or their food delivery. It was top-notch and five star all around. Everything was excellent. Rest assured I couldn't imagine anything not being excellent at this restaurant. Outdoor seating seemed okay but as we see in a lot of parts of Mexico you will have extremely rude smokers who decide to step away from their table inside and smoke right in front of the people seated outside. We chose not to eat outside for this reason.

If you love seafood I highly recommend Contramar. This is a popular restaurant amongst tourists and locals and for good reason. The quality of seafood is incredible and there’s plenty of options for everyone. I recommend making a reservation as it can be busy but during the day I came, there were plenty of walk-ins as well. To start, I got the lime mezcal margarita. Mexico is known for mezcal so I had to get one. The drink was perfect. Nicely balanced with tartness from the lime and the smoky flavor from the mezcal. For food I ordered a few things. I got the tuna tostadas which were very good. Pair it with some habanero and lime and you are set. I ordered the special of the day which was snail Aguachile. Absolutely delicious and perfect for those who like snails. Ordered two tacos: octopus and shrimp as well as the king fish al pastor. Both were amazing. Finished off my meal with the mango meringue. Everything here is delicious, you can’t go wrong with anything. The customer service was top notch as well. Probably some of the best I’ve had in Mexico City thus far (apart from Michelin starred restaurants).
